TSS – FAQ’s

  1. I already paid my ticket, ¿Why do I need to attend TSS class?

Traffic Survival School is mandatory by the Department of Transportation (ADOT), Department of Motor Vehicles (MVD) and/or by the Court. You must attend this class and pay the fines for the traffic violation received.

  1. ¿What is “Traffic Survival School” (TSS)?

Traffic Survival School (TSS) is an 8 hour course ordered by the Division of Motor Vehicles (MVD) or by a Judge of the Peace from one of the Judicial Courts. This class must be completed within a 60 day period starting from the “date of action”. This date is in the Corrective Action Letter/Proof of Assignment letter that you received. If you do not show up for class MVD can suspend your driver’s license until class is completed and fines are paid.

Traffic Survival School will help improve your knowledge regarding traffic laws; you will improve your abilities while driving and it will help you change your driving behaviour behind the wheel.

  1. ¿Who must attend Traffic Survival School “Traffic Survival School” (TSS)?

The TSS class is required for the following traffic violations:

  • Aggressive driving.

  • DUI – Any violations for driving under the influence.

  • If you were convicted for passing a red light.

  • If you accumulated 8 to 12 points in your license in a period of 12 months.

  • If you were involved in an accident that resulted in death or serious injury.

  • If you have a “graduated” license (18 years of age or less) and this is your first violation.

  • If you received s citation outside the state and that state requires you to take a TSS class.

  • If a Judge has given you an order to attend a Traffic Survival (TSS) course. (Not a Defensive Driving course).

 

  1. ¿What is the difference between Defensive Driving School and Traffic Survival School (TSS)?

  • Defensive Driving School (DDS) Is a voluntary driving course of 4 hours and it is designed for individuals that have received a citation for a minor traffic violations citation. And have not had any traffic violations within the last years.

  • If you are eligible for this class, upon completion, the points associated with the traffic violation will not be eliminated. This class is a reprimand class for the driver.

  • Traffic Survival School Class (TSS) It is an 8 hour mandatory class.

  • It is designed for persons that received a major traffic violation citation. If you accumulated 8 or more points in your driving record, if you were convicted of passing a red light or if you were driving under the influence of any drug or alcohol. Unfortunately the points on your license will not be eliminated upon completion of the class. If you have attended a defensive driving course within the last 2 years and are not eligible for another class you must complete a Traffic Survival Course (TSS).

 

  1. If I only have 1 ticket for passing a red light, ¿Why do I have to attend a Traffic Survival School Class (TSS)?

This class is required in an effort to reduce and/or eliminate red light traffic violators, It is an Arizona law requirement since 2001, that each drivers that receives a traffic citation of this kind or does not stop at a 4 way stop intersection. Upon approaching a stop sign. Must attend a Traffic Survival Class and pay the fines related to the citation. If you do not show up or you are not eligible for the Defensive Driving Class you must complete the Traffic Survival School Class (TSS).

  1. ¿How will this class help reinstate my driver’s license?

Upon course completion, you will receive a certificate that you can take to any Department of Motor Vehicles (MVD) locations. There you will ask them to reinstate your license. Keep in consideration that you must meet additional requirements such as a paying a reinstatement fee. 

  1. ¿How do I register for this class?

  • Calling our School:   (602) 273-4949.

     Before you call make sure that you have your “case number” available, you can find it in the Court Order or in the letter you received from MVD.

  • Come to our School in Person:

     Visit us at “Arizona Driving School”Located at 3243 W Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85017. One of our staff members will be happy to assist you.

Unlike other schools we have a physical office were we can assist you Monday through Friday, from 9am to 7 pm. Make sure you bring the letter of “Corrective Action” or “Proof of Assignment” from the Division de Motor Vehicles (MVD), or the order from the court indicating that you must complete a “Traffic Survival School (TSS)”.

  • Show up to the class:

You can register the day of the class on the same day, just show up 30 minutes prior to the class so that the instructor can allow you in the class.

Make sure you bring the letter of “Corrective Action” or “Proof of Assignment” from the Division of Motor Vehicles (MVD), or the order from the court indicating that you must complete a “Traffic Survival School (TSS)” along with the corresponding payment.

We prefer you register prior to the day of the class because space is limited. If there is space available you will be accepted. If no space is available you will be scheduled for the next available class.

  1. Do I have to pay now?

  • You have the option to pay prior to the day of the class to reserve your space in the class or you can pay prior to beginning the class.

  • Class space is limited per MVD. Reserve your space as soon as possible, register today.

  • The payment of the class depends on where the class is being conducted. If the class is located at our main school at 3243 W Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85017 your payment options are flexible. Your options are: credit & debit cards and money order. If the class is being conducted anywhere else you can only pay by money order.

  • No personal checks will be accepted.

 

  1. What do I need to bring to class?

  • You must present the letter of “Corrective Action” or “Proof of Assignment” from the Division of Motor Vehicles (MVD) or the order from the court indicating that you must complete a “Traffic Survival School (TSS)”. If you do not have your letter or case number you will not be able to register for the class.

  • If you do not have your letter please contact MVD or the court to request a duplicate of your order or letter or obtain your case number so that you are able to register for the TSS class.

  • We can print a duplicate of your order / letter for a $10 fee.

  • MVR (Is your driving record) it is not the same and it will not be accepted in place of the Corrective Action or Proof of Assignment

  • If you went to court and the Judge ordered you should complete a Traffic Survival Class (It is not a Defensive Driving Course) bring you Court Order.

  • Bring your picture identification.

  • Class registration payment.

  • We will have a 30 minute lunch. You may bring your own lunch or visit one of our nearby restaurants.

 

  1. What happens if I lost my letter?

Do not worry; if you lost your letter we can obtain a duplicate of your letter from the Department of Motor Vehicles (MVD). You will pay a fee of $10 dollars.

If you don’t have that letter you will not be allowed in the class. Please make sure you bring your letter.

  1. ¿At what time does the class start/end?

Class Registration stats at 8:30 a.m.  

The class starts promptly at 9:00 a.m. and ends at 5:45 p.m.

  1. If I cannot make it to the class that I registered for, can I re-schedule?

Absolutely.
